When the Clare City Bakery (open since 1896) was about to close in 2009, nine Clare police officers pooled their money and bought it. The story went national, and the downtown shop now draws hundreds of thousands of visitors a year. Get the big yeast doughnuts, long johns and cream-filled ones. A 2025 visit paid about $12 for six. There’s also a gift shop full of police-themed merch.
